SUMMER CLASSES – JUNE 2022
Our Summer Classes in June 2022 at the Helen O’Grady Studio (at Shahrah e Faisal), comprised of fun-filled 14 hours, themed as ‘Journey Around the World’, taught by our Helen O’Grady trained-instructor – Ms. Rawa Knowles, and assisted by Ms. Mehwish.
Students loved being ‘CONSERVATIONISTS’ on a mission to protect endangered species from the evil Dr. Viper.
They enjoyed learning about United Nations (UN) and what UN does to support conservation of wildlife around the world in different countries.
This is a unique theme-based curriculum of Helen O’ Grady Academy that develops personality and social + communication + language skills, also provides some great level of general knowledge to children, like:
• Wild life
• Earth’s natural resources (water, soil, minerals, wildlife, forests, ecosystems & biological life)
• Facts about different countries
• Multiple cultures
– Props and dressing-up were the cherry on the top in each class.
– The art activities gave them a chance to express freely.
– Our specially designed Activity packs were the giveaways in each class, which gave them some more insights on improving their creativity and imagination.
HIGH IMPACT GAME
This was a segment students enjoyed the most, and asked for it in every session. The fun game aimed to get students moving and reacting, teaching them SPACE AND BODY AWARENESS with SPONTANEOUS RESPONSE and ACTIVE LISTENING. The teacher called out certain actions for children to mime it, and quickly changed it to a different action:
• Snowball – children rolled up a ball of snow and threw it.
• Star- children made a star with their bodies
• Reindeer- made antlers with their hands and did galloping actions
• Husky – children mimed howling the moon
FINALE
On their final Parent-Day Presentation, we involved the parents in a few activities, giving them a chance to experience the learning-process of important 21st century skills, in a secure environment whilst having fun.
Children performed a mini – script called FOX FIRES and an interesting improvisation called “NORTHERN LIGHTS, dressed up as reindeers and a Magical Fox, with an interesting story line and showcased what they acquired in previous sessions regarding:
- presentation skills,
- delivery of speech with clear use of consonants and intonations,
- how to face the audience,
- facial expressions,
- and their ability to work as a group.
Parents were very happy to see their children performing in a structured way with confidence, moreover seeing them happy and having fun.
TESTIMONIALS
“A positive environment which help children learn is one of the most difficult components of a skill-based learning. Helen O’Grady Program is one place that provides participatory teaching… I am glad to be a part of this fun-filled learning environment, where children feel valued, safe and supported. Thank you to all the talented members.” – Happy mother of Aiza and Rumaisaa.
“I had been waiting for months to get my children enrolled for a Helen O’Grady Drama class, and they proved that my time was worth waiting. I’ve noticed a good change in my kids. They are more vocal, and interested in speaking other languages too, as they are covering Journey around the World. I truly appreciate the teacher’s efforts to bring out the hidden talents in the kids 😊” – Ms. Samina
